Paris University Stands up to Anti-Israel Campaigners

Further to our earlier post on the cancellation of an anti-Israel Conference in France, there has been much coverage on this issue as the University of Paris 8 is now closing its doors for two days to prevent “Israel Apartheid Week” events from taking place on campus. When the university cancelled the original anti-Israel event — with the support of a French court — the organizers of the Conference announced they would continue with the plan to hold the conference, even without official approval, prompting Pascal Binczak, the President of Paris 8, to close the University on Monday and Tuesday. The university’s recommendation to hold the event off-campus was rejected by the event organizers. Pascal Binczak published an article last Friday in Le Monde defending his decision. He said such instances and the hostile and biased tone of the event were cause for concern and reason to close university grounds. He also said that the group was taking advantage of academic freedom
