The Palestinian Christian organizers behind the 2009 Kairos Document have issued a new call for action against Israel. Entitled “The Bethlehem Call”, this new document was adopted at the “Kairos for Global Justice Encounter” held in early December in Bethlehem, which gathered more than 60 participants from 15 countries. Citing Israel’s “evil designs”, “ethnic cleansing” and “apartheid”, and calling for the “enforcement” of the so-called “right of return” of all Palestinian refugees to Israel, this document is yet another milestone in the history of anti-Israeli demonization and vilification emanating from certain Palestinian and world Christian quarters. The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) has labeled the document a “biased and divisive call against Israel and a manifesto for delegitimization of Israel”, which leaves “no room for a Jewish state of Israel alongside a Palestinian state. That is a blueprint for conflict and disaster”. The original Kairos Document has been used since its adoption in late 2009 as a tool for mobilizing hostility to Israel and boycott actions against it within the Christian world and there is no doubt that the progenitors of the Bethlehem Call seek to do the same with this new initiative.
